COVID-19 cases in Douglas County have dropped nearly 43 percent in the week ending on Wednesday.

An update from the Douglas Public Health Network said that 227 cases were reported. That is down from 395 cases the previous week.

Public Information Officer Vanessa Becker said 18 local residents are hospitalized for COVID-19. Becker said 1 person died related to the virus in the last week. Becker said of the 7 deaths in the last two weeks, their age range was between 73 and 93. Becker said only 2 of those were fully vaccinated. However, those 2 were not up to date with boosters. She said that is an illustration that vaccine and boosters continue to be effective at reducing hospitalizations and deaths.

Becker said DPHN continues to ask residents to stay home if they are sick, access antivirals like Paxlovid if they do test positive, and get vaccinated and boosted as the best way to reduce the severity of illness.
