The Windigo Fire has burned nearly 1,000 acres in the Umpqua National Forest, as of Wednesday afternoon.

The fire is ten miles northeast of Lemolo Lake and was discovered Saturday. An earlier estimate had the fire listed at close to 1,200 acres, before a flight over the area provided a more accurate estimate.

Northwest Interagency Management Team 6 arrived to fight the fire, and also the nearby Potter Fire on the Willamette National Forest, on Tuesday. While improved fire-fighting conditions are expected for a few days, temperatures are forecast to increase by the weekend, accompanied by increased winds.

Nearly 165 people have been assigned to the fire.
