The fish viewing area at Winchester Dam near Roseburg is set to reopen on Friday.

A release from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife said access to the viewing area has been restricted since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ODFW is able to reopen the viewing area with the lifting of state mask rules. ODFW offices will remain closed until May 1st.

The release said the fish ladder has been a popular stop along Interstate 5 for decades and provides an opportunity for visitors to see migratory fish like Chinook and coho salmon, steelhead and lamprey. A restroom is available at Amacher Park which is across the Highway 99 bridge from the dam.
