Many local residents spent part of Sunday cleaning up from Saturday night’s windstorm.

For some the wind brought only minor issues, like having to clean up branches that had fallen, or finding trash cans that had made it to neighboring yards. Several construction sites in Roseburg had fencing fall over. Many political campaign signs were damaged. In downtown Roseburg one campaign sign came off its anchor and blew two blocks north, ending up against a garage at the Public Safety Center. A sign at the former location of Salud Restaurant on Southeast Jackson fell off the outside wall of the building, landing on the sidewalk below.

In Winston, the metal roof at Wintergreen Nursery sustained damage. A nearby worker told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that he watched a large section of the roof come unanchored and flap around in the air, before crumbling back down. By Sunday afternoon, owner Mike Winters had the damaged roof covered until repairs could be made.

Some residents were without power for several hours. One worker at Fred Meyer told KQEN that his home in Winston was without power for over six hours. Early Sunday morning around 1,100 customers of Pacific Power still did not have power.

The National Weather Service said Saturday night’s peak wind gust came at 8:11 p.m. when 44 mile per hour winds were registered at the Roseburg Regional Airport. That was during a brief time of heavy rain and reduced visibility. The airport received .071 inches of rain between 6:00 a.m. Saturday and 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

Rain is expected for much of the week in the Umpqua Valley.
