A group of students in the Glide School District protested masking requirements early Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Mike Narkiewicz told News Radio 1240 KQEN that he spoke with a group of students in front of the high school regarding their concerns. Narkiewicz said, “While we don’t disagree with anything they are standing up for, the kids still are required to wear masks in school”.

Narkiewicz said most of the students went back to class after a respectful march on the bike path in front of the school. Students were given unexcused tardy slips if they were late for class.

Narkiewicz said students were not disciplined for being at the protest. He said some students refused to wear masks when they went back to class after the protest and were given a choice – either wear their mask or go home for the day.

Narkiewicz said people can stand up for what they believe as long as they are being respectful and don’t disrupt the educational process at the school.

He said he believed “it was a great event”.
