Congressman Peter DeFazio has announced that the Army Corps of Engineers has awarded over $67.7 million to carry out repairs on the entirety of the Coos Bay North Jetty.

DeFazio said, “I have been dogged in the fight to secure much-needed funding to support the Coos Bay North Jetty for years”. DeFazio said the jetty is in desperate need of repair, with its deterioration increasing danger for ships, boaters, and commercial fisherman alike. DeFazio said that puts economic opportunity at risk. He said the contract with Trade West Construction will cover the full scope of repairs needed for the jetty.

A release said the contract includes money Congressman DeFazio secured in Fiscal Years 21 and 22 for repairs.

The release said the Coos Bay North Jetty loses approximately 20 feet every year and has receded more than 750 feet since its construction. The Port of Coos Bay will use this funding to keep mariners out of harm’s way and support the Coast Guard’s ability to carry out search and rescue missions.
