A potential natural gas leak closed a section of downtown Roseburg Friday morning.
911 operators began receiving calls about the issue in the area of Southeast Kane Street and Southeast Oak Street just after 10:00 a.m.
Avista Utilities quickly shut down the suspected gas line. One building near that intersection was evacuated while neighboring businesses and residents were asked to “shelter in place”. Some streets and intersections were blocked off to establish a safe perimeter.
Roseburg Fire Chief Monte Bryan told News Radio 1240 KQEN that the area was being opened back up at around 10:50 a.m.
