Douglas County Commissioners are mourning the passing of local resident and veteran icon, Frank Moore on Sunday, which was just a week shy of his 99th birthday.

A release said the Board, including Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress, would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to his wife of 79 years, Jeanne, their children Frankie Moore, Colleen Bechtel and Dennis Moore, along with other family and friends, including many in the veteran community, who knew Moore.

Last year, Moore was given a special lifetime achievement award from the American Legion, and was inducted into the Legion of Honor, recognizing his 75 years of service and his commitment to helping fellow veterans.

The release said Moore was described by many as an eternal optimist, who made a positive impact on the lives of those he met.
