A Winter Storm Warning above 2,000 feet is now in effect until 10:00 a.m. Monday for much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is expected with accumulations of 1 to 2 feet with localized amounts up to 3 feet over higher remote terrain. In mountain areas 2 to 5 feet is forecast. Winds will gust as high as 40 miles per hour.

The Warning area includes central Douglas County and the south-central Oregon Cascades including the Crater Lake and Diamond Lake areas.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. In mountain areas, snow fall rates could approach 1 inch per hour on Friday. Snowfall intensity will pick up again on Sunday in mountain locations, after a relative lull on Saturday.

Travel is strongly discouraged throughout the region because of dangerous conditions.
