A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for mountain areas beginning Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. around much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said 7 to 14 inches of snow is forecast, with wind gusts at 25 to 45 miles per hour at times, leading to blowing and drifting snow, mainly in exposed areas.

The Advisory is in place for the south central and southern Oregon Cascades including Crater Lake and Diamond Lake through 10:00 a.m. Thursday. This includes portions of highways 138, 62 and 230. Drivers should plan on slippery road conditions in these areas.

Forecasters said new snow accumulations at the Siskiyou Summit on Interstate 5 are expected to be generally less than 2 inches during this time period. Additional snowfall with lower snow levels are likely between Christmas Eve day and the 30th of December. Travel is likely to be significantly impacted by winter weather during that time period.
