Douglas County government will close on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, in observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
That’s happening as the actual holidays fall on Saturdays.
Because of that, the court house, Justice Building, County Annex in Reedsport and most other county offices will not be open. Exceptions include the landfill and transfer stations and the Douglas County Museum, which will stay open on the two Fridays, but will close on both Saturdays. The Douglas County Lighthouse Museum in Winchester Bay will be open every day, except on Christmas.
The curbside meal service and Meals on Wheels programs will also close on both Fridays. Patrons needing meals on those days are asked to request an extra meal from staff during their drive through visit or delivery time between December 20th and December 27th.
In addition, some county departments will be lightly staffed during the holiday season. Those having business should call ahead to see if the department they were planning to visit will have staff available.
Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, along with communications and office staff will continue to provide law enforcement protection and emergency assistance for residents. County commissioners, County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer, and staff with the Douglas Public Health Network will continue to work on the local pandemic response, regardless of the holiday.
