Winter Weather Advisories for much of the region begin on Wednesday morning.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said wet snow is expected for central Douglas County and surrounding areas. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches above 2,000 feet and 4 to 8 inches above 3,000 feet are expected. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 45 miles per hour in exposed areas. This includes Canyon Mountain Pass between Roseburg and Grants Pass. The Advisory is in effect from 8:00 a.m. Wednesday through 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

For the south-central Oregon Cascades including Crater Lake and Diamond Lake, the advisory is in place between 7:00 a.m. Wednesday and 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are forecast with winds gusting to 60 miles per hour.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult. Blowing snow at higher elevations could significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause tree damage.
