Sutherlin Police are seeking those who damaged the City of Oakland Christmas tree.

Captain Kurt Sorensen said just after midnight early Saturday, unknown persons climbed the tree at the corner of Locust and Second Streets. Sorensen said the tree is about 20 feet tall. The large lighted star was stolen from the top of the tree and the lighting and decorations were damaged as a result.

Sorensen said city staff and numerous volunteers work very hard every year to erect the tree in the downtown area for everyone to enjoy. The tree and the tree lighting ceremony has been a tradition for at least 50 years.

There is video of the suspects along the vehicle they were driving. It appears to be a 1990’s Honda Civic hatchback.
