Roseburg Police cited a transient for alleged criminal mischief on Wednesday.
An RPD report said at 12:00 p.m. 44-year old Darren Smith was contacted in the 500 block of Southeast Rose. The report said Smith has been living in a travel trailer parked on Southeast Rose Street next to the downtown parking structure for the last month.
Sometime over the last few days, the man took it upon himself to tap into the wiring for the stairwell lights at the parking structure and run extension cords down to his trailer, according to the report. When Smith tapped into one of the junction boxes, he allegedly caused over $1,000 in damage. Smith’s trailer is also leaking and dripping sewage onto the street under it.
Smith was cited for first degree criminal mischief, theft of services and for offensive littering. He was released after being cited, due to COVID restrictions at the Douglas County Jail.
