Well known as a fundraiser for non-profit organizations in Douglas County, Gary Wayman has passed away.
Wayman was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He began his career at the Los Gatos YMCA then came to Roseburg to serve as the director of the local YMCA in 1979. Later he became the director of the Mercy Foundation, after a brief assignment as the financial director for the national YMCA in Pennsylvania.
Wayman was focused on community service and raised funds to launch and support many community services including Adapt’s Adult Residential Treatment Center- The Crossroads, Phoenix School, the United Community Action Network, Mercy Foundation’s Festival of Trees, and DaVita Roseburg Mercy Dialysis. Wayman is credited with raising many millions of dollars for local non-profits.
Wayman was currently on the board for Adapt Integrated Health Care. He was also the Historian for the Mercy Foundation board.
Gary Wayman died on Monday at age 79. His wife of 57 years, Charlotte, age 77, proceeded him in death just three weeks earlier. Wayman is survived by his children Mark Wayman and Cheryl (Wayman) Wood.
