On Saturday, detectives with the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team intercepted a large shipment of methamphetamine that was coming into the community.

Lieutenant Rick McArthur said at about 2:00 p.m. a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle on Interstate 5 northbound a mile south of Canyonville. McArthur said the vehicle was returning from California and detectives had reason to believe it contained a large amount of narcotics. A roadside search was conducted, allegedly revealing 3.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, 21.4 grams of suspected heroin and small amounts of suspected LSD and fentanyl.

McArthur said the driver of the vehicle, 37-year old Roger Akins of Roseburg, was charged with unlawful possession and delivery of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of heroin. He is detained on $500,000 bail.
