Staff with the Oregon Department of Transportation plans to re-open at least one lane of Highway 138 West by Tuesday evening, 10 miles south of Elkton.

Dan Latham of ODOT said the road surface could be damaged and may need repairs.

Friday morning an estimated 7,000 cubic yards of rock and debris came down a hillside and landed on the road, completely blocking it. As of late Monday afternoon, contractor Weekly Bros. had removed more than 5,000 cubic yards. Latham said they blasted three boulders on Sunday and spent most of Monday removing the rubble.

Once the road reopens, traffic will likely be limited to a single lane with flaggers for several days, due to rock scaling operations. Latham said this will involve inspecting the slope and removing any loose rock. That process could take a few days, during which there will be delays of up to 20 minutes.
