The program is a collaborative 3-year training program between Aviva Health, CHI Mercy Health and the Roseburg VA. The residents began their training in 2020. 8 additional residents joined the program this year and another 8 will join next year. During the first year, each resident will complete a four-week introduction to VA Medicine rotation at the Roseburg VA Medical Center campus. That will be followed by weekly patient visits at the new clinic their second and third year of the program.

The release said the Roseburg VA FMRC represents the goal established for the 2016 Medical Education Program. The program began with training students from regional medical schools and Internal Medicine and Psychiatry residents from Samaritan Health in Corvallis.

In addition to serving the core mission of the VA, the program intends to enhance the ability of the Roseburg VA to recruit and retain physicians, particularly those specializing in Primary Care.
