A two-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon caused serious injuries to two Roseburg residents.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 2:00 p.m. 16-year old Wyatt Olinghouse was headed westbound in the 4500 block of Old Melrose Road when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and went into the oncoming lane. His sedan collided head-on with an SUV driven by 54-year old Steven Roerish.

Olinghouse was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated. He was taken to CHI Mercy Medical Center before being flown to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield.

Roerish was transported to Mercy with serious injuries. He was later transferred to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. He was listed in good condition on Thursday, according to a hospital spokesperson.

A section of Old Melrose Road was closed for an extended period of time, while investigators worked at the crash scene. An update is expected from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office when more information is officially available.
