FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE HOME FIRE IN GREEN WEDNESDAY EVENING

Fighters battled a home fire in Green early Wednesday evening.

A report from Douglas County Fire District No. 2 said just after 5:30 p.m. crews were dispatched to a residence on Chandler Drive. A neighbor alerted occupants of the home when he noticed black smoke exiting the garage door. The residents left the home safely while firefighters were responding. An off-duty firefighter was the first fire member to arrive on the scene and reported a fully involved garage fire.

The report said the first arriving engine crew was able to knock down the majority of the fire with an initial attack using two hose lines. Firefighters spent extensive time overhauling the structure due to trapped fire in the garage. The fire extended to the upper story from the exterior, but minimal damage occurred to the inside of the structure.

Firefighters from District No. 2 and from the Winston-Dillard Fire Department responded to the incident. Crews were unable to determine the cause of the fire.
