The Mystic Mountain Fire is at 20 to 25 acres as of Wednesday night.
Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews are making good progress on the fire, three miles southeast of Glide near the intersection of Little River Road and Mystic Mountain Lane.
The fire was reported shortly before 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Reed said five helicopters and one large airtanker were used to slow the fires spread as it moved up the hillside and to attack spot fires that ignited ahead of the main fire while ground resources, including two bulldozers and multiple engine crews worked to construct containment lines around the blaze. Several homes and outbuildings were threatened by the advancing flames. One barn containing several vehicles was lost due to the fire.
By 7:00 p.m. the incident commander reported that containment lines had been constructed around 60 percent of the fire. 57 firefighters remained engaged on the Mystic Mountain Fire overnight, including 6 engines, a water tender and two 20-person hand crews.
Reed said progress on the fire also allowed the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to reduce or eliminate the previously issued evacuation notices for the fire. Sergeant Brad O’Dell said all homes on Mystic Mountain Road have been reduced to a Level 2 “BE SET” evacuation advisory. All homes on Little River Road starting at Mystic Mountain Road up to the Peel Store, including all homes located between these two points, are no longer under an evacuation advisory. Little River Road has been re-opened to traffic, though the public is asked to avoid the area due to fire personnel working nearby.
Crews and equipment from Glide Rural Fire Department, Douglas County Fire District No. 2, Roseburg Fire Department and the Sutherlin Fire Department have worked with DFPA on the fire. Other assistance has come from DCSO, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Douglas County Public Works Department, Oregon State Police, and the American Red Cross.
The cause of the Mystic Mountain Fire is under investigation.
