DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX REMAINS AT 46,596 ACRES

September 6, 2021 12:00 p.m.

The Devil’s Knob Complex remains at 46,596 acres with no increase in the size of fires.

The Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team has assumed command of the complex. Fire behavior has moderated due to high humidity and widespread smoke. Helicopters will be used as conditions allow to help keep the fire in check, allowing firefighters to expand direct and indirect fire lines.

On the Smith Fire, burnout operations along the perimeter have been taking place to buffer the fire from moving further northwest and to increase the depth of existing fire line. Crews are scouting for opportunities to secure the fire’s edge throughout burnout operations along Forest Road 27 toward Ash Valley.

On the Big Hamlin Fire, fire lines are being patrolled to help increase line depth along Forest Road 29. That will continue to help keep the fire in the same footprint.

The Devil’s Knob Complex is still 55 percent contained. 779 people are working on the fires.
