The Roseburg Public Schools Community Bond Development Committee has kicked off its work to determine top priorities and parameters for a May 2022 capital improvement bond.
Superintendent Jared Cordon said the group includes about two dozen community members and met on August 18th to learn about the district and the school board’s efforts over the past 14 years to seek meaningful investments in school infrastructure. Cordon said the last bond measure to pass in Roseburg was in 2000 with funding primarily used for improvements at Roseburg High School. That bond was retired in November of 2020.
Cordon said the district is focusing on a community-driven process for the upcoming bond campaign. Five more meetings are scheduled through November, with BRIC Architecture acting as facilitators.
The committee includes Roseburg School Board Directors Rod Cotton, Rebecca Larson and Andrew Shirtcliff as well as several local leaders, business owners, parents, school staff and other community members.
Cordon said the bond process will include community outreach and polling in coming months. He said the committee will take into account the input from outreach and polling results as it determines its recommendations for the school board.
