A Winston man was charged following an elude incident on Tuesday.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 12:40 a.m. a deputy was parked on Interstate Five northbound near Tri City when he heard a vehicle accelerate on the freeway. The deputy thought the driver wasn’t letting up so he attempted to catch up to the vehicle. As he started to close in near the Myrtle Creek exit, the suspect was allegedly going about 90 miles per hour, so the deputy initiated a traffic stop about mile later.

The report said the driver eluded, took the Boomer Hill exit and then re-entered the freeway. The deputy lost sight of the pickup a short time later.

Another deputy spotted the suspect vehicle near the 12,000 block of Highway 99 South, headed north. Units reengaged the vehicle near Roseburg Forest Products in Dillard and pursued it onto Brockway then Lookingglass. The suspect was able to ditch the deputies near Safari Road.

The report said a Winston officer located the vehicle at an apartment complex on Rose Street. Residents in the complex advised that the man associated with the vehicle lived in the same unit. The 29-year old admitted to fleeing, and said due to a personal situation he had made some poor decisions.

The man was charged with eluding police and for reckless driving.
