The Devil’s Knob Complex on the Tiller Ranger District in the Umpqua National Forest, has grown by over 2,500 acres, and is now listed at 36,933 acres.

An update from the Florida Red Incident Management Team said the Smith Fire was active on Monday along the northeast corner, particularly in the Slick Creek area. The update said this area has the biggest potential for fire movement. Additional resources have arrived to assist with strategic firing operations.

The Smith Fire, at 20,884 acres, continues to move toward Ash Valley. Crews are brushing the outskirts of Ash Valley to provide further protection to the residences. Their main focus will be to continue preparing for firing on the northeast flank. The line on the southeast flank has been completed in preparation for a burn.

On the Big Hamlin Fire, firing operations were conducted Monday in the Whiskey Camp area to Forest Road 3114. Mop up and patrol continued on the west and southwest flanks. Crews made excellent progress on the northwest flank and established good backline on the southwest flank.

The Devil’s Knob Complex remains 25 percent contained. 840 people are now assigned to work on the fires.
