A Sutherlin man died in a single vehicle crash on Thursday.
Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 2:45 p.m. dispatchers received reports of the wreck in the 2100 block of Driver Valley Road near Oakland. O’Dell said first responders discovered that a pickup with one occupant had crashed while traveling eastbound. The driver failed to negotiate a corner before the wreck.
O’Dell said 43-year old Austin Ward was pronounced deceased at the scene. Ward was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. An investigation determined that speed was a contributing factor.
DCSO was assisted by the Oakland Fire Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and Roseburg Towing.
