Fire behavior has increased significantly on two of the larger fires in the Devil’s Knob Complex of fires, on the Tiller Ranger District of the Umpqua National Forest.
An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 8 said those fires are the Big Hamlin Fire and the Smith Fire. Both made significant runs to the southeast on Monday. On the Hamlin Fire, that run moved across the indirect containment lines on the south and southeast flanks towards the Rogue-Umpqua divide. The fire stayed within the indirect containment line to the east. The Smith Fire was pushed by winds to the South Umpqua River and spotted across to the eastside of the river.
The Devil’s Knob Complex is now at nearly 13,700 acres, and remains 15 percent contained.
