DOUGLAS COUNTY – The Douglas County Board of Commissioners are currently accepting applications to fill a seat on the Board of Property Tax Appeals.
The board is mandated to consist of at least 3 residents, who don’t hold any office with the county.
Together the members of the Douglas County Board of Property Tax Appeals are responsible for hearing taxpayer appeals for reduction of the real market, or assessed, value of property.
All members of the board, including full-time members and alternates, are selected by the County Clerk from a pool of appointments made by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.
Anyone who wishes to apply, must be a resident of the county, must not be a member of a governing body in the county, and must not be a member of any taxing district within the county.
Commissioners say applicants should have a working knowledge of the local real estate market, be willing to participate in public hearings, be able to quickly review documentation while listening to the public, and be able to make reasonable decisions with the affected parties in attendance.
Interested residents should also be familiar with Oregon property tax laws.
They say mediation skills, real estate appraisal experience, a financing or a title-and-escrow related background would also be helpful.
Citizens interested in being considered for a position on the Board of Property Tax Appeals, should submit an application to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.
Applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3rd.
Contact the Douglas County Clerk’s Office for more information at 440-3636.
