SALEM – Governor Kate Brown declared a state of emergency for Oregon, in preparation of an upcoming heatwave in the region.

The emergency declaration was necessitated by the need for state agencies to assist local, and Tribal, jurisdictions in protecting the health and safety of their residents.

Multiple days of extreme heat, with little or no overnight cooling to offer a reprieve, may also impact critical infrastructure, possibly causing utility outages and transportation disruptions.

Governor Brown says, “Oregon is facing yet another extreme heat wave, and it is critical that every level of government has the resources they need to help keep Oregonians safe and healthy.”

Brown encouraged Oregonians to take proactive steps to keep themselves, and their families, safe.

The Governor has directed the Office of Emergency Management to activate the state’s Emergency Coordination Center. The center will be used to coordinate essential, protective measures during the heat wave
