The Jack Fire, burning on the Umpqua National Forest 20 miles east of Glide, is 57 percent contained, and is at 21,503 acres.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 10 said that 588 people are working at the fire.

The fire is burning in steep rugged terrain making some areas inaccessible to firefighters and resistant to containment. On Saturday, fire personnel had another successful day of containing fire activity within control lines north of Highway 138E.

South of Highway 138E, crews will resume the use of mechanical equipment along the eastern flank to reinforce control lines. On the southeastern section of the fire, firefighters improved handline within the Twin Lakes areas and are conducting assessments to identify possible strategies to strengthen containment lines. Along the west flank of the fire, crews continue to patrol and mop up.

The Dry Creek area and Horseshoe Bend campground have firefighters patrolling to ensure the safety of those locations.

The update said that air support will continue to support ground resources with water, particularly the eastern portion of the fire, to limit it’s spread.
