ROLLING HILLS ROAD FIRE DESTROYS 2 HOMES, MULTIPLE OUTBUILDINGS

The Rolling Hills Road Fire, which started Friday afternoon, destroyed 2 homes, multiple outbuildings and 4 vehicles.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said the first of multiple 911 calls reporting the fire came in at about 4:35 p.m. Reed said the first engine to arrive on scene reported a fast-moving grass fire that was estimated to be 1 acre in size with multiple structures threatened.

Level 2 and Level 3 evacuation notices were issued by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for residents near Rolling Hills Road, Melody Lane, Stella Street, Landers Avenue and Chandler Drive.

Reed said at just after 7:00 p.m. the Incident Commander reported that the fire was contained and that crews would be on the scene for an extended amount of time conducting mop-up operations.

The Rolling Hills Road Fire burned approximately 20 acres of grass and brush.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

12 fire departments and 3 law enforcement agencies work at the scene of the Rolling Hills Road Fire.

Reed said additional information regarding the fire will be provided later by Douglas County Fire District No. 2.
