A short section of Main Street in Scottsburg is closed directly under the Scottsburg Bridge to all traffic, including vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.

Dan Latham of the Oregon Department of Transportation said the closure will allow ODOT and prime contractor Hamilton Construction to build the north end of the new Scottsburg Bridge. Latham said construction activities and equipment pose a risk to anyone attempting to enter the area, especially pedestrians and bicyclists.

Pedestrians seeking to get from one side of the work zone to the other are advised to use the new Scottsburg West Road alignment, which connects to Oregon 38 at the north end of the bridge.

Latham said Main Street will reopen next year during the final stage of construction.
