The Umpqua National Forest has increased Public Use Restrictions to Level 3.

A release said these restrictions follow active management techniques based on scientific factors, weather conditions and preparedness levels.

The release said fire danger remains Extreme on all ranger districts across the forest. The Industrial Fire Precaution Level is currently set at level 3. The PUR order adds language that camp fires will no longer be allowed anywhere in the forest. This includes developed campgrounds, trails, dispersed campfire rings as well as wilderness. There is an exception for commercial stoves fired by liquid fuel or propane to be permitted.

The release said violations of PUR prohibitions are punishable as a Class B misdemeanor with a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or not more than 6 months in prison.
