Congressman Peter DeFazio is encouraging families in Oregon’s 4th congressional district to watch for advance monthly payments of the Child Tax Credit of up to $300 per month per child beginning next month.
A release said the payments begin July 15th, continuing through December 15th. The payments are part of the American Rescue Plan.
DeFazio said 43,200 households, covering over 90 percent of all children in his district, could get the funds, and even more after filing their taxes next year. He said nearly all working families should get the funds automatically with no further action required.
The release said families who did not file a tax return for 2019 or 2020 or who did not use the IRS Non-filers tool last year to sign up for the Economic Impact Payments, should go online: https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/child-tax-credit-non-filer-sign-up-tool to get signed up.
DeFazio said “The Child Tax Credit Monthly Payments will be transformative for Southwest Oregon families and help set our children up for success”. He said the payments will take many children out of food insecurity and “…lift nearly $6,000 children out of deep poverty in my congressional district alone”.
