MAN JAILED FOLLOWING FATAL CRASH LAST WEEK

A Roseburg man has been jailed, following a fatal crash last week.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said on Tuesday, detectives arrested 43-year old Michael Garcia on charges stemming from the crash which took place on Thursday night. O’Dell said Garcia was driving a sedan when he made an abrupt turn into the path of an oncoming SUV driven by a Roseburg woman.

Garcia’s passenger, 25-year old Alexandria Contreras-Garcia, also of Roseburg, died in the collision. An infant was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was evaluated at CHI Mercy Medical Center and later released. The other driver was treated for minor injuries.

O’Dell said Garcia was charged with first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and reckless endangering. Bail was set at $647,500.

The crash took place in the area of Del Rio Road near Wilbur Road.
