A Chiloquin man was jailed after a fight in Canyonville early Thursday morning.
A report from the Douglas County Sheriff Office said at about 3:30 a.m. a deputy responded to a call at Seven Feathers Casino. The deputy made contact with 56-year old Stephen Prewitt and a juvenile, who had both been detained by security. The teen was allegedly intoxicated and was suffering from scratches to his head, neck, lips, and chest. He refused to answer any questions.
The man, the juvenile’s biological father, said he was upset that his son had been drinking so, “did what he had to do”, but would not elaborate any further. Security footage reportedly showed Prewitt dragging the juvenile by the neck, throwing him on the ground and kicking him in the head.
The victim was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center and turned over to the custody of the Department of Human Services.
Prewitt was charged with first-degree criminal mis-treatment, second degree counts of assault and disorderly conduct, harassment and for unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Bail was set at $67,500.
