Oregon Senate Republican Leader Fred Girod is calling for the reopening of the State Capitol in Salem, to the public by April 21st.
A release from the Oregon Senate Republicans said on March 3rd, Oregon Health Authority Director Patrick Allen testifed before the House Committee on COVID-19. The release said Allen stated by that April 21st, Oregon should have received enough vaccines to vaccinate 70 percent of the adult population. It said that according to the best available data and experts, herd immunity is reached when at least 70 percent of the population is vaccinated or otherwise immune to COVID-19.
Girod said “If herd immunity isn’t the benchmark for giving Oregonians full access to their democracy, I don’t know what is. I am calling on the Presiding Officers to develop a plan to reopen the Capitol by April 21st.
Girod said that date is “…a completely reasonable expectation for reopening the building”.
