A 2-alarm fire destroyed the Winston Nazarene Church on Saturday.
Battalion Chief Scott Richardson of Douglas County Fire District No. 2 said just before 2:30 p.m. firefighters from the district and from the Winston-Dillard Fire District responded to the fire on Southeast Thompson Avenue. Several calls had reported that the church was on fire with flames and smoke visible.

Richardson said the first crew arrived to find heavy fire coming from the south side of the building. Winston Fire immediately requested the second alarm for additional resources. It took 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. The church sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage throughout the building, which was built in the 1970’s.

26 firefighters including five fire engines and two truck companies responded. Help also came from the Roseburg Fire Department and the Lookingglass Fire District. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office, Oregon State Police and Winston Police.
