A Roseburg woman was taken to the hospital after a vehicle hit a cow on the freeway, Thursday night.

A report from Oregon State Police said at about 10:30 p.m. the cow entered a northbound lane of the roadway near the landfill exit and was hit by a sedan.

The passenger, a 63-year old woman was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. She was treated and released according to a hospital spokesperson.

The cow died upon impact and was retrieved from the scene by its owner.
