8th grade students at Winston Middle School are learning from home this week, due to a case of COVID-19.

A message on the school’s Facebook page from Principal David Welker said they were notified by the Douglas Public Health Network that someone at the school had tested positive for COVID-19. Welker said parents of the 8th graders are being contacted and asking that the students quarantine for 10 days and monitor for symptoms for 14 days. 8th graders can return to school on-site beginning Monday February 1st.

Those students are to attend classes on their regular schedule using Google Classroom. Those who need to pick up their Chromebook, should contact the school to make arrangements.

7th grade students can continue to attend school on-site as normal. Parents opting to keep their student home should contact the school office. Students should complete their classes to the extent possible on Google Classroom.

Welker said quarantined 8th graders should not be at the school for any reason, including open gym.
