A Winston man was jailed following a police pursuit on Sunday night.
Information from the Oregon State Police said at about 7:20 p.m. three callers to police dispatch reported a driving complaint regarding a southbound pickup on Interstate Five. The initial caller said the vehicle had almost hit their vehicle head on prior to getting on the freeway, and then ran a stop sign at the on ramp. The report said the next two callers said the vehicle was driving erratically. One caller said the pickup had hit a guardrail.
A trooper spotted the pickup about two miles north of Winchester and activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle attempted to elude and a pursuit ensued. The pickup eventually came to stop at a residence at an undisclosed address and the driver was allegedly found to be impaired. A breath sample reportedly showed the driver’s blood alcohol content at .26, which is over three times the legal limit.
37-year old Kiel Gala was charged with attempting to elude police, DUII-alcohol, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and for failure to perform the duties of a driver in an accident with property damage. Bail was set at $91,250.
