The state of Oregon has shifted its vaccination plan in light of new information about the supply of COVID-19 vaccines.
A release from the Oregon Health Authority said a few days earlier OHA had updated its vaccination plan after being informed by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar that the federal government would be releasing its entire supply of COVID-19 vaccines to states.
On Friday, OHA said it received news that the federal reserve of vaccines that Oregon and other states expected to receive does not exist.
Governor Kate Brown said the latest news will “…unfortunately cause a two-week delay in beginning vaccinations for seniors”. OHA said the new plan depends on the state receiving a reliable supply of doses from the federal government. The current plan is:
*Starting the week of January 25th, teachers and childcare providers can be vaccinated.
*Starting February 8th, vaccinations will begin for the first of four “waves” of seniors. Vaccinations will start to those age 80 and older. It will be followed by those age 75 and older, then people age 70 and older. The last wave will be for all Oregonians age 65 and older, in the weeks after.
