HUNDREDS WITHOUT POWER IN RURAL AREAS

January 13, 2021 6:00 a.m.

Hundreds of Douglas Electric Cooperative customers remain without power in rural areas of Douglas County.

Todd Munsey from the utility said problems began just after 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night when strong winds coming in from the coast caused trees to fall in the North Fork and Lower Smith River areas. Munsey said outages soon spread to North Tenmile Lake and Scottsburg, and then to many other parts of their service territory.

Munsey said crews have been working diligently through the night and continue to do so, restringing power section by section. As of 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, close to 700 members are without power. There is no estimate for restoration times, due to how spread out the outages are.
