January 8, 2021 5:00 p.m.

A man was found deceased in the South Umpqua River near Gaddis Park on Friday morning.

Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police said at about 11:50 a.m. dispatchers received a call that an unresponsive adult male was laying in the river.

Eichenbusch said EMS personnel and RPD officers responded to the area and confirmed the man was deceased. The Douglas County Medical Examiner and RPD detectives assisted with the investigation. There were no obvious signs of foul play. Eichenbusch said it was discovered that the man was currently living a transient lifestyle and had been hanging around in that area for the past few days. He was positively identified as a 48-year old Roseburg man.

No further details will be released according to RPD.

This was the second transient to die in Roseburg in less than two weeks. On December 28th, a 67-year old man was found deceased in a tent near the Stewart Park Duck Pond.
