One person was arrested following protests at the Oregon State Capitol in Salem on Wednesday.
A report from Oregon State Police said multiple law enforcement agencies were monitoring a protest.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. a group a counter-protestors arrived at the Capitol and a fight broke out between the opposing sides. The report said both groups were quickly separated and officers worked to keep the two groups separate for the remainder of the day.
43-year old David Willis of Lincoln City was arrested and charged with harassment and disorderly conduct. The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible after consultation with the Marion County District Attorney.
Wednesday night OSP said they had heard rumors that armed groups are considering taking over or occupying the State Capitol. A release said OSP fully supports peoples first amendment rights of freedom of speech and to gather peacefully but said criminal activities would not be tolerated. They said those who engage in those acts will be arrested.
