Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man who allegedly broke into the Douglas County Courthouse on Sunday night.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell said on Monday deputies were notified of a burglary which had occurred sometime over the weekend. An employee reporting for work at the building noticed a door which had been damaged and reported it.

O’Dell said deputies were able to obtain surveillance footage which showed a man entering the building at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday. Deputies processed the scene and collected evidence to further the investigation.

The suspect was later identified as 27-year old Robert Kemp of Roseburg. Kemp was contacted on Tuesday in the 200 block of Jackson Street in downtown. Additional evidence was collected linking the man to the burglary.

Kemp was charged with second degree counts of burglary, attempted theft and criminal mischief along with a third-degree count of theft. Bail was set at $323,750.
