The Douglas County Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be done virtually on Sunday night.

As with most everything else in 2020, the event is being handled differently due to COVID-19 restrictions.

This year a “live” tree was planted on the front lawn of the courthouse a few days ago. Lights and additional displays have been added. The Douglas County Christmas Tree Committee, which consists of the Board of Commissioners, the City of Roseburg and Roseburg Town Center/Downtown Roseburg Association will simultaneously broadcast the pre-recorded program at 6:00 p.m. on their respective Facebook pages.

The presentation will include a holiday greeting from Mayor Larry Rich, a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” from Roseburg City Councilor Andrea Zielenski, a countdown to the tree lighting from Commissioner Tom Kress and even a visit from Santa Claus.

The lights on the tree and on the courthouse will illuminate on a varied schedule through December.
