Suspicious devices were found Thursday afternoon at Roseburg High School.

Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of Roseburg Police said at around 4:35 p.m. a custodian reported finding the objects in the front parking lot of the school. Eichenbusch said they appeared to be some type of small homemade device, possibly altered fireworks.

A release from Roseburg Public Schools said there were approximately 20 staff members and 60 students on campus at the time. Everyone was evacuated.

Eichenbusch said officers from RPD, and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office blocked access to the school property. The Oregon State Police Explosives Unit responded from Medford to evaluate the items. None of the items were found inside any the buildings on campus.

Superintendent Jared Cordon of RPS said the district fully cooperated with the police investigation. Cordon thanked the police agencies for their work and said RHS staff members and administrators followed proper safety procedures.

More information is expected later Friday morning from RPD.
