This year, for the first time on the Umpqua National Forest, the public can now purchase Christmas tree permits online through https://www.recreation.gov/.
Christmas tree permits can also be purchased through a number of vendors around the county as well. Mark Turney of the Forest Service said customers can purchase up to five permits per household, at $5 each, through the end of the year. The permits authorize purchasers to cut their own trees on designated Forest Service lands. Maps identifying those areas will be provided on the website or from vendors at the time of purchase.
