A Roseburg man is in jail charged with manslaughter and other counts, in connection with a July car wreck that claimed one life.

A Roseburg Police report said on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. officers took 21-year old Michael McCollum into custody in the 1400 block of Alameda.

On July 9th, McCollum was driving a southbound vehicle on Southeast Pine Street in Roseburg, reportedly at a high rate of speed, when the vehicle left the roadway, struck the guardrail and went airborne. The wreck took place where Highway 99 turns into both Pine and Stephens streets. An RPD report said the vehicle landed upside down on a lower access road, trapping both occupants inside.

The passenger, 26-year old Jacob Bickell of Myrtle Creek, was pronounced deceased at the scene. McCollum was taken to Mercy Medical Center for severe injuries sustained in the wreck. He was later life-flighted to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield for further treatment.

A Douglas County Circuit Court warrant charges McCollum with second degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving. Bail was initially set at $75,000 but was raised during arraignment, to $150,000.
